There are two Magistrate Court offices in Darlington County. The Darlington and Hartsville offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am until 5:00 pm.
Magistrates handle all traffic violations and criminal offenses subject to a fine or forfeiture not exceeding $500.00 or exceeding 30 days in jail or both. If allowed by traffic and criminal statutes, Magistrates can also handle some traffic violations and criminal offenses involving fines exceeding $500.00 and imprisonment exceeding 30 days in jail or both. Magistrates also handle civil cases involving claims that do not exceed $7,500.00 and all matters between landlord and tenant. In addition, Magistrates set bail, conduct preliminary hearings, and issue arrest and search warrants.
