My name is Michael August. I am the Darlington County Sheriff. My vision for Darlington County is to create a proactive law enforcement department focused on reducing both property and violent crime. By implementing strategic initiatives and fostering community partnerships, we aim to enhance public safety and improve the quality of life for all residents of Darlington County.
My career in law enforcement has expanded over 31 years. Over a decade of those years, I've had numerous supervisor roles including Sergeant in Criminal Investigations, Sergeant in Narcotics, Sergeant in Darlington County Combined Drug Unit, Lieutenant in Criminal Investigations, and Chief of Police for Society Hill Police Department. I've also worked with SLED between 2013-2018 including the roles of Senior Agent, Investigated Public Corruption, and Pee Dee Regional Polygraph Examiner.
As Sheriff, I have several goals:
