Mission Statement:
The mission of the Darlington County Planning Department is to promote the public health, safety and welfare through ensuring that the County has adopted Development Standards Ordinances & policies, as well as State & Federal regulations followed equally, by all those planning new development of their land. Our goal is to assist the community, elected & appointed officials, builders & developers and all others to create an atmosphere of cooperation and participation, continued development and lasting growth for the betterment of Darlington County.
Responsibilities:
We work closely with other County departments in planning & regulatory issues to help coordinate the many requirements associated with land development and the issuance of development permits. Other government and private entities we work with include, but are not limited to:
- SC DOT (South Carolina Dept of Transportation)
- SC DHEC (South Carolina Dept of Health & Environmental Control) for septic tanks, storm water management, etc.
- US ACE (United States Army Corps of Engineers)
- Local Engineers
- Surveyors
- Contractors
Maps and GIS Data:
Planning is responsible for many of the county's GIS data layers including roads and address points. We are responsible for the acquisition of County road right-of-way and drainage easements and process all paperwork for the acceptance of new roads into our county system. We also work closely with E-911 Addressing to ensure proper access and location of properties receiving an address for Emergency Responders.
